Isocyanate HDI Ige Allergy Blood Test

Hexamethylene diisocyanate

Test Code: 602665
Specimen Type: Blood
Online Isocyanate HDI Allergy Test

Description:

Isocyanate HDI Allergy Test (Labocrp)

What is Isocyanate HDI?

This test looks for an allergic reaction to Isocyanate HDI.  Hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) is a chemical used in a number of industrial settings.  It is a colorless liquid with a strong odor.  Isocyanate HDI is used in the production of polyurethane coatings, paints, adhesives, dental materials, and contact lenses.

What are the symptoms of Isocyanate HDI allergy?

Some people who are exposed to Isocyanate HDI can develop an allergic reaction.  The most common symptom of an allergic reaction is an asthma-like reaction resulting in coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and tightness in the chest.  Other symptoms include eye irritation, skin rash, runny nose, and sore throat.  Once someone develops a sensitivity to Isocyanate chemicals, they will typically need to avoid exposure or risk their symptoms becoming worse and even life-threatening.

How do blood allergy tests work?

Allergies are caused by the immune system reacting to certain triggers that would otherwise be harmless to the body. The immune system mistakenly sees these allergens as a threat and produces IgE antibodies in response.  The production of IgE antibodies triggers the release of an inflammatory agent, histamine.  Histamine is what causes the symptoms typically associated with an allergic reaction.  Allergy testing measures the amount of IgE antibodies to specific allergens in the blood.  A person’s IgE antibody level can help to determine if they are allergic to a particular substance and how severe their allergy is.  High IgE test results and clinical symptoms of an allergic reaction should be discussed with your doctor to determine the appropriate course of action.  If your test results do not show elevated IgE antibody levels, but you continue to experience allergy symptoms, consult your doctor.

Allergy testing for Isocyanate MDI and Isocyanate TDI is also available.

The Isocyanate Allergy IgE Allergy Test has a typical turnaround of 2-5 business days for test results.

Request A Test offers a variety of blood allergen tests.  Please see our Allergy Test Category for more options.
