What is Kratom?
Kratom is developed from the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa plant, which is native to Southeast Asia. Kratom is sometimes used in the management of chronic pain and in therapy for opiate addiction. It is also taken recreationally for the high it produces. A Kratom drug test is used to detect Mitragynine, an alkaloid of Kratom, in a urine sample.
Is Kratom a type of NPS?
Kratom is considered a Novel Psychoactive Substance or NPS. NPS are synthetic drugs designed to mimic the effects of traditional illicit drugs such as cannabis, cocaine, heroin, and LSD.
What are the effects of Kratom?
Kratom use has been shown to lead to dependency and may lead to other drug use. Long-term health complications, including liver toxicity and seizures, have been linked to chronic Kratom use. Using Kratom in combination with other drugs has resulted in overdosing, which can lead to death. Pregnant women using Kratom may impart adverse effects on their infants.
Is Kratom legal?
Kratom is not currently federally regulated. While Kratom is legal for sale and consumption in most states, a handful have passed laws banning it.
Does Kratom show up on a drug test?
While it has similar effects to opiates such as Morphine, Kratom is not technically classified as an opiate and is not detectable by most common drug screens. This test provides an initial screening with automatic confirmatory testing performed in the event of a positive result.
