Organic Acid Urine Test
This test evaluates the organic acids found in a urine sample. Organic acids are a product of metabolism, the process through which the body breaks down the food we eat and converts it into energy. Most organic acids are excreted in the urine. Organic acid levels in the urine are typically more concentrated than in the blood making them easier to measure and analyze. There are a number of disorders that can affect the body's metabolic processes. These disorders can be genetic or caused by factors such as the side effects of certain medications. drug abuse, malnutrition, and some types of cancer. Metabolic disorders can cause a variety of symptoms including but not limited to unusual fluctuations in blood sugar, lethargy, hyperactivity, dry skin, anemia, weight loss or gain, frequent infections, impaired hearing or vision, nausea, and heart failure.
The results of this test provide a qualitative analysis based on the levels of organic acid detected in a person's urine.
