Description:
Quetiapine (Seroquel) Blood Drug Test (Labcorp)
This test measures Quetiapine, also known as Seroquel, in a blood sample. Quetiapine is a psychiatric medication that is prescribed to help treat several types of mental illness including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and depression. Seroquel is the most common brand name for Quetiapine. Seroquel is one of the most frequently prescribed antipsychotic medications and its prevalence has lead to an increase in cases of recreational abuse. In some cases, Seroquel is taken for purposes other than it is intended such as a sedative or for relief of stress and anxiety. While Quetiapine does not itself produce any sense of euphoria or much of a high like other commonly abused medications, it is sometimes taken to enhance the effects of other drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, or heroin.
Seroquel can cause a variety of side effects and these can be worsened when it is taken improperly. Common side effects include irritability, mood swings, slurred speech, difficulty concentrating, and nightmares. Toxicity from an overdose can cause spasms, irregular heartbeat, difficulty breathing, loss of muscle control, seizures, and coma.
Quetiapine had a short detection period in blood. In most cases, it is detectable for 12-48 hours after use. The detection time can vary depending on a number of factors including how much a person has taken. Positive results for this test will provide a numerical value for the level detected.
Turnaround for this test is typically 6-12 business days.
