Description:
RheumAssure Arthritis Blood Test
The RheumAssure blood testing panel includes 3 tests that can aid in identifying cases of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues. About 1% of Americans suffer from RA. Women are more likely to develop RA but men tend to experience more severe symptoms. RA can develop at any time but it most commonly begins in middle age. The most common RA symptoms are pain, stiffness, and swelling in the joints of the hands and feet. As the disease progresses, it can affect other parts of the body including the skin, eyes, lungs, heart, kidneys, blood vessels, and nervous system.
While there are several common blood tests to help identify RA not every person will show the same results. Combining multiple tests can provide more information for a more comprehensive screening.
The RheumAssure panel includes:
- Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Factor: About 80% of people with Rheumatoid Arthritis show elevated levels of RA factor.
- CCP (Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide) Antibodies: Approximately 70% of RA cases test positive or CCP antibodies.
- 14.3.3 ETA Protein: 14.3.3 protein levels are often elevated in both early and chronic cases of RA. This test is most useful when combined with other tests.
Testing for Rheumatoid Arthritis is typically ordered when someone is experiencing symptoms.
Turnaround for this test is typically 8-15 business days.
