Description:

Peace of Mind STD Panel with HIV Early Detection Test

This STD testing panel features screening for some of the most common STDs, as well as an HIV RNA test, which can detect the genetic material of the HIV virus.  An RNA HIV test can be helpful when someone has had a recent exposure they are concerned about.  RNA testing often has a higher level of accuracy shortly after a potential exposure than other testing methods, such as the HIV 4th-generation blood test, which may not be accurate until several weeks after exposure.

This package includes the following tests:

  • HIV 1 & 2 RNA Qualitative (blood)
  • Chlamydia (urine)
  • Gonorrhea (urine)
  • Hepatitis A IgM Antibody (blood)
  • Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (blood)
  • Hepatitis C Antibody (blood)
  • Herpes 1 & 2 IgG Antibody (blood)
  • Syphilis RPR with Reflex (blood)

How accurate are early detection HIV tests?

An RNA test can detect HIV in the blood as early as 10-14 days after infection.  After 28 days, the RNA test has an accuracy level of around 99%.  Early detection can give more peace of mind and help to ensure that someone develops a plan with their doctor to protect their health.

How long does it take to get STD test results?

The turnaround for these tests is typically 3-6 business days.  If any of the tests detect something, confirmatory testing may be necessary, which can take longer.

The standard Peace of Mind STD package with HIV 4th Gen test is also available.

Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.

Detection Period:

The Qualitative RNA test can detect HIV as early as 10 days after exposure.  Some people may take up to 3 weeks to be detectable.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are typically detectable from a few days to a few weeks after contact.

Syphilis is typically detectable 3-6 weeks after a potential exposure or any time after.

Hepatitis A IgM antibodies are typically detectable 3 to 4 weeks after an initial exposure and return to normal after about 8 weeks.

Herpes, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C are typically detectable starting 4-12 weeks from exposure.

Requirements:

It is recommended that someone taking Biotin (also known as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R) stop consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample.

For the highest level of accuracy on the urine test:

  • Refrain from urinating for at least one hour prior to collection.
  • Avoid cleansing the genital area at least one hour prior to collection.
  • The sample should be a "first catch" of urine, meaning customers should begin urinating directly into the collection container.
  • Fill the specimen cup with approximately 20-30 ml.  Overfilling the container will dilute the specimen and may reduce the accuracy of the test.
