HHV 6 Test in Winsted, Connecticut
Same day, Confidential and Affordable HHV 6 Test
Concerned that you or someone you know has been exposed to Herpesvirus 6? Request A Test offers a confidential and affordable HHV 6 Test in Winsted, CT. This test detects Human Herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) in the blood. HHV-6 is a member of the Herpes family of viruses. Information on how HHV-6 is spread is limited but research has found that the majority of people are infected when they are very young. The most common form of transmission is through saliva but it can be transmitted through sexual contact as well. Once a person is infected, the virus remains in their system for the rest of their life. The virus will typically remain latent but can reactivate later in life and may be related to a variety of health issues, especially in people whose immune systems are compromised.
We offer several HHV-6 tests that either look for antibodies or viral DNA. Antibodies associated with HHV are IgM and IgG. IgM antibodies typically develop shortly after infection or after a reactivation. After a few months, these antibodies are typically no longer detectable. IgG typically develop a few weeks after infection and can persist for the rest of a person's life. A positive IgG test typically means that a person has been infected in the past but does not necessarily indicate an active infection. A positive IgM test typically means that a person has been infected in the recent past or has recently had an active infection. The three antibody tests are the HHV-6 IgG, HHV-6 IgM and the HHV-6 IgG and IgM Test.
For viral DNA testing, we offer two PCR tests. A PCR test analyzes DNA from a blood sample to detect HHV-6. Viral DNA will typically be present if a person has ever been exposed to HHV-6. The HHV-6 PCR Quantitative Test provides a numerical value. An active infection will typically cause elevated results for viral levels. This test can help determine if a person has an active infection and monitor treatment. The HHV-6 PCR Qualitative Test provides a positive or negative result without any numerical value. Results for this test can help determine if a person has contracted the virus at some point in the past but cannot differentiate between an active or latent infection. An HHV-6 IgM Antibody test is more accurate at determining if a person has or has recently had an active infection.
