This test is used to evaluate a person's Vitamin C levels. Vitamin C, also known as Ascorbic Acid, is vital to the production of collagen which helps with the health and repair of skin, blood vessels, bones, teeth, cartilage and tendons. This test is intended to monitor people who are taking high doses of vitamin C which would cause their levels to be higher than normal compared to the common reference range. High doses of Vitamin C are sometimes used in the treatment of cancer patients. Studies have show that in some cases, high doses of Vitamin C can help to slow the growth and spread of cancer cells in people with liver, colon, prostate, pancreatic and other types of cancer.
This test is only appropriate for people who are taking high doses of Vitamin C as recommended by their doctor. For a standard Vitamin C test, please see our Vitamin C Blood Test.
Turnaround time for the Vitamin C test is typically 2-3 business days.
Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
This test may not be appropriate for someone under the age of 11 months. There is no established reference interval for someone 0-11 months old.
