Description:
Advanced Lipid Profile
What does an Advanced Lipid Panel test for?
- Apolipoprotein B (Apo B): The primary protein found in LDL (the "bad" cholesterol). Measuring ApoB helps determine your risk for developing cardiovascular disease.
- Lipoprotein (a) (Lp A): A genetic, cholesterol-carrying particle. Lp(a) is often considered a "hidden" risk factor since it is not affected by factors like diet, exercise, or medication. High levels of Lp(a) significantly increase your risk of heart attack, stroke, and aortic stenosis.
- NMR Lipoprofile: An advanced blood test that measures the number, size, and subclasses of cholesterol-carrying particles in your blood. This test also includes standard cholesterol measures including LDL, HDL, and triglycerides.
Ordering an advanced lipid profile is recommended for people who
- Have been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or metabolic syndrome.
- Have heart-related health issues despite having normal results on a standard cholesterol test.
- Have a family history of premature heart disease.
How long does an Advanced Lipid Profile test take?
Turnaround time for these tests is typically 2-5 business days.
