What is Kratom?

Kratom is an herbal extract made from the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa tree, which is native to Southeast Asia. Is Kratom Legal in the United States?

For now, Kratom has not been classified as a controlled substance by the DEA, which means that it is legal at the federal level. The FDA has not approved Kratom for any medical use. Individual states, and in some cases localities, have developed their own policies on the legality of Kratom. Kratom is currently banned for sale, purchase, and possession in Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Louisiana, Vermont, and Wisconsin. Some states that allow the sale of Kratom have enacted restrictions based on age, concentration, and type of product. In states like California, Colorado, Florida, and Mississippi, where Kratom is otherwise legal, specific counties and cities have passed their own bans.
