Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Blood and Urine Test

What is Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)?

Chronic Kidney Disease is a long-term condition in which the kidneys gradually weaken and lose their ability to filter waste from the body. The most common causes of CKD are diabetes and high blood pressure.  There is no cure for CKD, but it can be managed, and its progression slowed through lifestyle changes, diet, and medication.

What are the symptoms of Chronic Kidney Disease?

In its early stages, CKD often shows no symptoms.  In later stages, you may experience chronic fatigue, fluid retention causing swelling in the legs or ankles, foamy urine, and itchy dry skin. Other common symptoms include nausea, loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, frequent muscle cramps, and increased thirst.

How to test for Chronic Kidney Disease

This package includes several tests that can help to screen for kidney disease or monitor people being treated for CKD.

  • Albumin/Creatinine Ratio: Measures 2 components in the urine to help determine kidney function in someone with high blood pressure.
  • Cystatin-C: Measures a type of protein filtered by the kidneys.  When levels are elevated, it can mean that kidney function is impaired.
  • Renal Function: Includes 9 blood levels related to kidney health, including blood sugar, BUN, Creatinine, and EGFR.
  • Complete Urinalysis: Examines the urine for abnormalities, including concentration, ph level, protein, sugar, blood, and particulate matter.

See our Kidney Testing Category for more options.

The turnaround for these tests is typically 3-6 business days.
