Electrolyte Panel Blood Test

PE

Test Code: 303754
Specimen Type: Blood

Description:

Electrolyte Panel Blood Test

This test measures the levels of several electrolytes in the blood.  Electrolytes are minerals which help to maintain a healthy water balance, stabilize the body's pH level and move nutrients and wastes into and out of the cells.  The Electrolyte Panel includes measurements for Sodium (Na+), Potassium (K+), Chloride (Cl-) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2).

An Electrolyte Panel is typically done as part of routine general health testing.  It may also be ordered when a person is experiencing symptoms such as nausea, weakness, confusion or abnormal heartbeat.  Electrolytes are often monitored when someone is being treated for liver or kidney disease, heart failure or high blood pressure.

Electrolyte testing is also included as part of a Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP), a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel and a Renal Function Panel.

Turnaround time for Electrolyte Panel testing is typically 1 business day.

Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.

Requirements:

Electrolyte testing does not have any special testing requirements.
