Fall Seasonal Allergy (Weed Pollen) Panel Blood Test (Labcorp)
This allergy panel tests for allergies to various species of weeds that commonly pollinate during the fall season. The beginning of fall can trigger allergy symptoms in a lot of people as various weeds such as ragweed begin to release their pollen. Pollen can travel hundreds of miles so even people who don't live anywhere near the source can be affected. Since most allergies display similar symptoms it can be difficult to determine what you are allergic to. Blood testing can help you test your reaction to common weed species and see how severe a reaction you have.
This allergy panel includes:
- English plantain
- Kochia (Firebush)
- Lamb's quarters
- Marsh Elder, Rough
- Pigweed, rough
- Ragweed, false
- Ragweed, common/short
- Yellow Dockweed
Allergies are caused by a reaction in the body's immune system. The body identifies certain substances, such as pollen, as harmful and produces IgE antibodies against them. These antibodies trigger the release of histamine which causes the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Common allergy symptoms include runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes or nose, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. The severity of the allergy will vary from one person to the next. Blood allergy testing provides numerical results for IgE antibody levels to help determine how severe a reaction a person will have. Positive allergy test results should be discussed with a person's doctor to determine the appropriate follow up.
This test is typically ordered when people develop allergy symptoms around the start of the fall season. Seasonal allergy panels for Spring and Summer are also available. For more testing options, please see our Allergy Testing Category.
