Summer Seasonal Allergy (Grass Pollen) Panel Blood Test (Labcorp)
This allergy panel tests for allergies to a variety of grass species that pollinate during the summer season. The beginning of summer can trigger allergy symptoms in a lot of people as various types of grasses begin to release their pollen. Pollen can travel hundreds of miles so even people who don't live anywhere near the source can be affected. Since most allergies display similar symptoms it can be difficult to determine what you are allergic to. Blood testing can help you test your reaction to common grass species and see how severe a reaction you have.
This allergy panel includes:
- Alternaria tenuis
- Bahia Grass
- Bermuda Grass
- Cladosporium Herbarum
- Fescue, Meadow
- Johnson Grass
- Kentucky Bluegrass (June Grass)
- Mucor Racemosus
- Rye Grass, Perennial
Allergies are caused by a reaction in the body's immune system. The body identifies certain substances, such as pollen, as harmful and produces IgE antibodies against them. These antibodies trigger the release of histamine which causes the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Common allergy symptoms include runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes or nose, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. The severity of the allergy will vary from one person to the next. Blood allergy testing provides numerical results for IgE antibody levels to help determine how severe a reaction a person will have. Positive allergy test results should be discussed with a person's doctor to determine the appropriate follow up.
This test is typically ordered when people develop allergy symptoms around the start of the summer season. Seasonal allergy panels for Fall and Spring are also available. For more testing options, please see our Allergy Testing Category.
