Description:
Perennial Allergy Panel Test
This test is used to measure a person's allergic reaction to a variety of common household allergens. Perennial allergic rhinitis is a chronic allergy condition that can occur at any time and may last throughout the year. Rather than being stimulated by seasonal allergens, perennial allergies are typically triggered by persistent stimuli in or around a person's household such as dust, fungus, mold, animal dander, or feathers. Studies have shown that as much as 20% of the population may suffer from some form of perennial allergy. While most people experience only mild symptoms, those with other conditions such as asthma can have a more severe reaction. Common allergy symptoms include sniffling, itching, runny nose, congestion, coughing, or headaches. Results should be discussed with a person's doctor to determine the appropriate follow-up.
This allergy panel includes:
- Alternaria alternata
- Aspergillus fumigatus
- Aureobasidium pullulans
- Candida albicans
- cat dander
- chicken feathers
- Cladosporium herbarum
- cow dander
- Dermatofagoides farinae
- Dermatofagoides pteronyssinus
- dog dander
- duck feathers
- goose feathers
- mouse urine
- Mucor racemosus
- Penicillium chrysogenum
- Phoma betae
- Setomelanomma rostrata
- Stemphylium herbarum
Allergies are caused by a reaction in the body's immune system. The body identifies certain substances as harmful and produces IgE antibodies against them. These antibodies trigger the release of histamine which causes the symptoms of an allergic reaction. The severity of the allergy will vary from one person to the next. Blood allergy testing provides numerical results for IgE antibody levels to help determine how severe a reaction a person will have. Positive allergy test results should be discussed with a person's doctor to determine the appropriate follow up.
