Lead Profile Blood Test
The Lead Profile Test is used to monitor exposure to lead and aid in the diagnosis of lead poisoning. Lead and organic lead compounds are found in a number of industrial products including paints, plastics, storage batteries, bearing alloys, insecticides, and ceramics. In addition to detecting lead in the blood, this test also provides measurements which can indicate blood abnormalities caused by lead poisoning.
This profile includes measurements for lead and zinc protoporphyrin. Elevated levels of protoporphyrin may indicate that the body's ability to create new blood cells has been impaired by exposure to lead.
