Methadone Blood Drug Test (Labcorp)
This test is used to detect methadone in a person's blood. Methadone is an opioid drug that is sometimes prescribed to treat chronic pain. It is also given to people who are being treated for addiction to opioids including Heroin to help lessen the severity of withdrawal symptoms. Methadone should only be taken with a doctor's prescription as it can be habit-forming and has the potential to cause side effects and serious health complications. Short-term side effects can include nausea, slowed breathing, headache, constipation, sexual dysfunction, mood changes, vision problems, and difficulty sleeping. More serious side effects are possible including difficulty breathing, swelling in the lips, tongue, or throat, rapid heartbeat, chest pain, hallucinations, lightheadedness, fainting, or seizures. An overdose of methadone can be fatal.
Methadone is typically detectable in the blood for 24 hours or less after use. Methadone levels usually peak around 2-4 hours after use. Blood Testing for methadone can be used to monitor people on Methadone therapy to ensure they are taking the appropriate dosage. Test results are quantitative and will provide a numerical value for the level detected. In the event that methadone levels are below the test's detection range, no value will be provided.
