Description:
Methadone Hair Drug Test
This test is used to detect methadone in a hair sample. Methadone is an opioid drug that is sometimes prescribed to treat chronic pain. It is also given to people who are being treated for opioid addiction to help lessen the severity of withdrawal symptoms. Methadone should not be taken without a doctor's guidance. It can be habit-forming and has the potential to cause side effects and serious health complications. Short-term side effects can include nausea, slowed breathing, headache, constipation, sexual dysfunction, mood changes, vision problems, and difficulty sleeping. More serious side effects are possible including difficulty breathing, swelling in the lips, tongue, or throat, rapid heartbeat, chest pain, hallucinations, lightheadedness, fainting, or seizures. An overdose of methadone can be fatal.
Hair testing looks for drug metabolites with a detection period of about 90 days. It can take up to 7-10 days after use for metabolites to enter the hair follicle. Hair testing is most effective at detecting repeat or heavy use. A Urine Methadone Drug Test is also available. Please see our Drug Testing Category for more options.
The turnaround for this test is typically 4-7 business days for negative results. Additional time will be required if confirmatory testing is necessary.
At this time, Request A Test does not offer DOT (Department of Transportation) certified testing.

Requirements:
Please be aware that due to national staffing shortages at the labs, results for drug testing may take longer than normal. Request A Test cannot guarantee turnaround time for test results.
Hair must be at least 1.5-2 inches in length. Hair will be collected at the scalp. The lab will be required to take a sample of at least 90-120 strands. Due to the inconsistent rate of growth for body hair, samples will only be collected from the head.
Please note that not all lab locations are able to perform the collections for hair drug testing. When placing a testing order online you will only be able to select from lab locations that are able to perform this type of testing.
This test is intended to screen for drugs of abuse and is not appropriate for pain management or therapeutic monitoring. Customers who require pain management testing should consult their prescribing physician.
