Mycoplasma Genitalium Swab Test

What is Mycoplasma Genitalium?

Mycoplasma genitalium (Mgen) is a bacterial infection of the urinary and genital tracts.  It is most commonly spread via sexual contact.   Mgen symptoms are usually similar to those of Chlamydia and may include pain during urination, discharge, and pelvic pain. Many cases are asymptomatic but can be identified by testing.  Mgen can be treated with antibiotics.

How is an MGen Swab Test Performed?

The MGen swab test requires a sample of cervical cells, collected by inserting a small swab into the vaginal opening.  The specimen will be collected by the person being tested at a lab collection site. A collection kit and instructions will be provided by lab personnel.

How do Men Get Tested for Mycoplasma Genitalium?

The vaginak swab test is only appropriate for biological females.  A Mycoplasma Genitalium Urine Test, which can be taken by anyone, is also available.

How Long Does a Mycoplasma Genitalium Test Take?

The turnaround for test results is typically 3-5 business days.

A comprehensive STD swab panel that includes chlamydia, gonorrhea, mycoplasma genitalium, and trichomonas is also available.

Where can I find an MGen Swab test near me?

Check our lab finder to locate a collection site in your area.
