What Does a Vaginal Swab STD Test Look For?

The STD Swab Panel screens for 4 common sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This panel includes:

Chlamydia
Gonorrhea
Mycoplasma Genitalium
Trichomoniasis

How Accurate are STD Swab Tests?

Swab testing is typically more sensitive than urine testing. This means that swab tests can accurately identify more cases, especially if the infection is in the cervix or vaginal canal.

Is there a Swab Test for Male STD Testing?

The STD Swab Panel is only appropriate for biological females. A Urine STD Panel that can be taken by anyone is also available.

How long do STD Swab Test Results take?

The turnaround time for test results is typically 2-4 business days. Results may take longer if confirmatory testing is necessary.

Detection Period:

Chlamydia & Gonorrhea:

Swab testing can detect chlamydia and gonorrhea as early as 1-5 days after exposure. In some people, it may take 7-14 days to be detectable.

Mycoplasma Genitalium:

A swab test may be able to detect Mycoplasma genitalium as early as 5 days after exposure. In some people, it may take up to 2 weeks to be detectable.

Trichomoniasis:

A swab test can detect trichomoniasis as early as 5 days after exposure. In some people, it may take up to 28 days to be detectable.

Requirements:

It is not recommended to take this test during a menstrual cycle.

Collection Instructions:

The lab attendant will provide a collection kit. Please review specimen collection instructions with lab personnel.

Wash your hands with soap and water prior to collecting the specimen.
Twist and pull the cap to remove the FLOQSwab from the plastic sleeve.
Hold the FLOQSwab at the red mark.
Standing in a comfortable position, use the free hand to spread the skin of the vaginal opening, while carefully inserting the swab up to the red mark.
Gently rotate the swab for 10-30 seconds.
Place the swab back into the tube until you hear a CLICK. After collection, hand the swab to a lab attendant for processing. Wash your hands with soap and water.
