Description:
Nickel Blood Test (Labcorp)
This test measures nickel levels in the blood. Nickel is a metallic element used in industrial settings for a variety of metal manufacturing. Nickel is also used in the production of paint, fabric, pottery, glass, plastic, and a variety of chemicals. While nickel is present in the environment, it is typically found in low levels and the risk of exposure is minimal. Most cases of nickel toxicity come from workplace exposure. Exposure to nickel can cause irritation of the nasal pathways, difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, dry skin, or blisters. These reactions can be more severe if a person suffers from a nickel allergy. Chronic exposure may result in health complications affecting the lungs, heart, or nervous system.
This test is typically ordered when someone is monitoring workplace exposure to nickel. A urine nickel test is also available.
Turnaround for this test is typically 4-7 business days.
