Myasthenia Gravis Test in Longview, Texas
Same day and Affordable Myasthenia Gravis Test, Locations Nationwide
Concerned that you or someone you know may have Myasthenia Gravis? Request A Test offers two convenient and affordable Myasthenia Gravis Tests in Longview, TX. Panel blood tests include more than one test. These Myasthenia Gravis panels feature 3-4 tests that are related to this neuromuscular disorder.
The Basic Myasthenia Gravis Panel measures the levels of three types of Acetylcholine Receptor (AChR) Antibodies in a blood sample. AChR antibodies are a type of autoantibody produced by the immune system which mistakenly targets proteins in the muscles. These proteins, called acetylcholine receptors, allow communication between nerve and muscle fibers. Damage to these proteins caused by AChR antibodies can cause muscle fatigue. AChR antibodies are associated with the autoimmune disorder Myasthenia Gravis (MG). People with myasthenia gravis typically experience symptoms such as drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty holding up their head, difficulty breathing, difficulty walking, and weakness in muscles throughout the body. Not every person with MG will show all 3 types of AChR antibodies. Testing for all 3 types can provide a more thorough screening to aid a person's doctor in making a diagnosis.
This panel includes measurements for 3 types of AChR antibodies that each affect the receptor proteins in different ways:
- Binding Antibodies
- Blocking Antibodies
- Modular Antibodies
The Comprehensive Myasthenia Gravis Panel measures these three AChR Antibodies and Striational antibodies. Striational antibodies are not specific to MG and may be found in people with other types of autoimmune disorders. However, they are present in a high percentage of MG cases. They are named for the pattern in which they bind to muscle tissue.
AChR Antibodies are also available as individual blood tests.
