Synthetic Opioids Incl. Xylazine Urine Drug Test
Specimen Type: Urine
Synthetic Opioid Urine Drug Test: Xylazine, Fentanyl (Labcorp)
This drug testing panel looks for a variety of synthetic opioids in a urine sample. Synthetic opioids are lab-synthesized agents that act on the same areas of the brain as natural opioids such as codeine and morphine. A number of synthetic opioids such as fentanyl and xylazine have seen an increase in use in the United States. These substances are often mixed into other illicit drugs such as cocaine or heroin, with or without the users' knowledge, increasing the likelihood of an overdose. Xylazine in particular has become a cause of increasing concern. The DEA has reported that over 20% of the fentanyl seized in 2022 was mixed with xylazine. Overdoses related to xylazine are especially dangerous since its effects cannot be reversed by Narcan, a medication that is commonly used to treat opioid overdoses.
Synthetic opioids are typically detectable in urine for 1-3 days after use. The detection time may vary based on a variety of factors.
The synthetic opioid drug panel includes:
- Xylazine: A tranquilizer that has not been approved for use on people in the US. There has been a rise in cases of overdose deaths linked to Xylazine mixed with Fentanyl and other opioids.
- Acetyl fentanyl
- Acetyl Norfentanyl
- Furanyl fentanyl
- Butyryl fentanyl
- 3-Methyl fentanyl
- Valeryl fentanyl
- Methoxyacetyl fentanyl
- Cyclopropyl fentanyl
- Tetrahydrofuran fentanyl
- Phenylacetyl fentanyl
- p-Fluoro cyclopropyl fentanyl
- Butyryl fentanyl carboxy metabolite
- 4-Methoxy-butyryl fentanyl
- 4-Hydroxy xylazine
- Methoxyacetyl Norfentanyl
This panel includes an initial screening with automatic confirmatory testing performed at no additional cost for any component that is detected.
Turnaround for this test is typically 4-8 business days if all results are negative. If confirmatory testing is necessary, results may take an additional 4-7 business days.
