Blood Type Test

ABO Grouping & RH Typing

Test Code: 006049
Specimen Type: Blood
Blood Type Blood Test Online

Description:

Blood Type Test (Labcorp)

The ABO Grouping & RHO Typing test determines blood type grouping (A, B, AB, O) and the RH factor (positive or negative).  A person's blood type is based on the presence or absence of certain antigens on the surface of their red blood cells.  The body naturally develops antibodies to antigens that are not present in its own blood cells.  These antibodies will target and attack foreign cells that are incompatible.

Knowing your blood type prior to giving or receiving a blood transfusion is important to avoid serious complications for the recipient.  Compatible blood types are also necessary for a successful organ transplant.  Women who become pregnant should know their RH factor to check compatibility with their fetus.  RH incompatibility can cause complications with current or future pregnancies.

Turnaround time for the ABO Grouping & RHO Typing test is typically 1-2 business days.
