When does post-menopause begin?
A person is considered to have gone through menopause once they have not had a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. After this, they are in the postmenopausal period.
How long does postmenopause last?
Postmenopause will last for the rest of a person's life. For most people, many of the symptoms of perimenopause will lessen is severity or frequency. However, some symptoms may persist for months or even years into the postmenopausal period.
What are common postmenopausal health issues?
There are a variety of health concerns that become more common after menopause. These can include:
- Loss of bone density leading to osteoporosis
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- More frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs)

Requirements:
Fasting is required for 9-12 hours prior to specimen collection.
Urine sample: A clean-catch midstream collection is recommended to minimize contamination and improve accuracy. See lab personnel for additional collection instructions.
It is recommended that someone taking Biotin (also known as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R) stop consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample.
