Description:
Trace Mineral Deficiency Panel (Labcorp)
This test measures the blood levels of 8 minerals that are essential to overall health. Trace minerals, also called trace elements, are substances that the body needs for healthy functioning. They assist in the production of various hormones and enzymes, the development of healthy bones, teeth, and muscles, metabolism, healing, and the regulation of blood sugar.
The trace mineral panel includes:
- Chromium
- Cobalt
- Copper
- Iodine
- Iron
- Manganese
- Selenium
- Zinc
Most people who eat a balanced diet get sufficient minerals from their food. The most common cause of mineral deficiency is malnutrition. Other causes can include malabsorption disorders, celiac disease, chronic bleeding, and pregnancy. In some cases, people who take excessive supplements or suffer from industrial exposure may experience toxicity from levels that are too high.
Symptoms of deficiency in one or more essential minerals can include anemia, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and muscle weakness. Excessive levels of one or more trace minerals can cause symptoms such as skin rash, hair loss, liver or kidney failure, seizures, and numbness or pain in the hands or feet.
Due to a delay at the lab, turnaround time for this test is currently up to 10 business days.
