Description:
Gender Reassignment (Transgender) Panel (Labcorp)
This panel includes a combination of tests that may be beneficial to someone who is in the process of gender reassignment. Individuals who are undergoing male-to-female or female-to-male gender transition will often need to monitor their health with hormone and general wellness blood work.
- Complete Blood Count (CBC): During hormone therapy, it is common to experience symptoms like inflammation, weakness, and fatigue. A CBC can help identify warning signs of anemia or infection.
- Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): A CMP measures several factors that can be affected by medications and hormone treatment including blood sugar, electrolytes, liver function, and kidney function.
- Estrogen: Estrogen is the primary hormone responsible for female sexual development.
- Estradiol: Estradiol is a form of estrogen that is commonly monitored during hormone therapy.
- Lipid Panel (Cholesterol): Some individuals undergoing hormone therapy have experienced a rise in LDL, the bad cholesterol. High LDL can be a contributing factor to heart disease.
- Prolactin: Prolactin is commonly monitored because it can rise or fall during gender reassignment therapy.
- Testosterone LC/MS: Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone. This test is more sensitive than a standard testosterone test.
These tests are typically ordered to monitor the health and wellness of someone who is undertaking gender reassignment. While this package represents some of the most commonly ordered tests, additional testing may be recommended by your doctor. Other tests that may be recommended include Hemoglobin A1C, Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Progesterone, and Thyroid Hormones. Any abnormal test results should be followed up with a medical professional.
Turnaround for these tests is typically 4-7 business days, barring any unexpected delays at the lab.
Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
